Councilman Diaz Addresses For Hire Vehicle Committee at
NYC Council Stated Meeting
You should know that on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, I was given permission to speak on the Floor of the New York City Council.
I took the opportunity to first congratulate New York City Public Advocate-Elect Jumaane William on his election.
I spoke about how the New York City Council eliminated a Committee known as the For Hire Vehicles Committee, where I worked hard fighting for the taxi industry.
My suggestion to Public Advocate-Elect Jumaane Williams is that maybe he could use his influence, when he assumes office as the Public Advocate, to advocate for the taxi drivers.
You should already know that for many years, Uber was allowed to function as a black car even though it was a taxi company. The yellow taxi industry was destroyed when the medallion used to have a value of $1.5 million dollars, and is now worth only $200 thousand dollars. Nine taxi drivers have taken their lives because of the despairing situation they were put in.
I hope that Public Advocate-Elect Jumaane Williams will use his influence to advocate for the taxi industry and to bring back that Committee. It was a mistake to eliminate that Committee because the For Hire Vehicles Committee was functioning, it was a good Committee

I am NYC Councilman Rev. Ruben Diaz and this is what you should know.
