With less than two weeks, until U.S. Households receive the 2020 Census Invitation, it’s important to point out two of the least mentioned benefits of the 2020 Census, Fair Representation and Redistricting, and why is important to be counted!
Between March 12-20, invitations to participate in the 2020 Census will start arriving at households across the country. The invitation will include instructions on how to respond online or by phone.
It’s about fair representation.
Every 10 years, the results of the census are used to reapportion the House of Representatives, determining how many seats each state gets.
It’s about redistricting.
After each decade’s census, state officials redraw the boundaries of the congressional and state legislative districts in their states to account for population shifts.
In 2021, voting districts will be redrawn across the country based on results of the 2020 Census. The way districts are drawn has a big impact on both voters and lawmakers. It can influence who wins elections, how political power is distributed, which communities are represented, and, ultimately, which laws are passed.
Make sure you’re counted!
