On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of the United States announced they would once again look at whether the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) should continue to be the law of the land. As an Assembly Member in the South Bronx where health disparities continue and as a former White House aide to President Obama, I am adamant advocate for the Affordable Care Act. ACA works, plain and simple. It has given millions of Americans who would not otherwise have access to quality health care the ability to see a doctor and get care without going bankrupt. It has made our country healthier by not leaving behind those with pre-existing conditions. It has shown what hard work and determination can do in the halls of Congress.
We have been battling it out in the lower courts for months, with little progress to show. Fighting for Americans’ healthcare is a slow process, but, we are in it for the long haul. This is the third major attack on the ACA in the last five years and American’s can’t wait any longer to know whether or not they will continue to have care available to them that will keep them and their kids safe and healthy.
If SCOTUS doesn’t rule in favor of keeping the ACA as it is, as was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama, more than 20 million Americans will lose their healthcare. Republicans don’t seem to care about this, but I sure as heck do.
Will you help fuel the fight against dismantling the ACA? Contribute $20 or whatever you can today, so that I can continue to protect the single most important piece of legislation in a generation as your next Member of Congress.
