84 years ago today, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law Social Security – setting in motion one of the most crucial and successful government programs in our nation’s history. For millions of senior citizens, Social Security provides both financial stability and dignified retirement. Social Security is not an entitlement program, but rather a form of insurance we pay for and have a right to receive upon retirement. But, somehow, the President disagrees.
President Trump lied to the American people when he campaigned on the promise of not touching Social Security. The deficit Trump and the spineless GOP created with their tax bill is increasing. Their solution to the growing deficit they created is to further push the financial burden back onto the people. The proposed billions of dollars in cuts to programs like Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare must be stopped. After paying into Social Security our entire working lives, this money is not theirs to take. The vast majority of Americans support protecting Social Security, as do I. In Congress, I will fight for the will of the people and halt any efforts to dismantle it.
