Martin Luther King III Endorses Michael Blake

Friends and Family,

I am so honored. Today, Martin Luther King III, civil rights activist, global humanitarian, and the eldest son of the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King, has endorsed our campaign to represent New York’s 15th Congressional District.

King issued the following statement: “At the 2008 Democratic National Convention, I said that, ‘If we are to be a great democracy, we must all take an active role in our democracy. We must do democracy.’ My family and I are passionate about staying involved in our democracy in the face of trying times, as our previous generations have sacrificed too much for us to not exercise our right to vote.

“I am asking you to vote for Michael Blake, who has been standing up for The Bronx his entire life. Because I believe in The Bronx and Blake’s Jobs and Justice vision, I, Martin Luther King III, proudly endorse Michael Blake for Congress.

“My father, the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., once said, ‘In the end, we will not remember the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends.’ Michael Blake is my friend, and he is ready to represent The Bronx in Congress on Day One. From our time on the bus to the inauguration of President Obama to our discussion of ways to defeat voter suppression tactics, I believe that Michael Blake will be a voice for all of us in Congress.

“We know that the front line of civil rights is at the voting booth. To the people of New York, I ask that you stand on the front lines with my brother Michael Blake and send him to Washington.

“Understanding the importance of our family’s name, I would only endorse a candidate if I truly believed in that person. If you believe in my father’s vision for justice and believe, like me, in the fierce urgency of now, then I ask you to believe in Michael Blake and believe in the Bronx.”

The endorsement from Martin Luther King III, such a remarkable Civil Rights Leader, at this moment of great fear and unrest among Black and Latino people are not just humbling but empower me to keep fighting for Jobs and Justice. When elected I will do all I can to live up to this honor. I BELIEVE in The Bronx and I BELIEVE in our greatness. Together, we will accomplish so much.
