New York.– Today marks the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month. I am proud to celebrate and applaud the rich history of the Hispanic and Latinx community, and the leaders, activists, lawmakers and others who are working tirelessly to ensure America is a more equitable place.
We celebrate today while acknowledging that our Hispanic community has endured a barrage of attacks from our current Administration who will stop at nothing to silence their voices and their spirit. From racist immigration policies to DACA, the Hispanic community has exhibited remarkable strength and resilience during these trying times.
The Hispanic and Latinx community is an integral part of the fabric of our nation. We will not bend. We will not fold. Rather, we will continue to fight alongside our neighbors in order to ensure that America is inclusive and welcoming to all.
